MONGOLIA


CITIZENSHIP: Citizenship is based upon the Constitution of Mongolia, dated January 13, 1992, to be updated. Information herein was characterized by the Mongolian Consul as the best information available.

BY BIRTH: Birth within the territory of Mongolia does not automatically confer citizenship. Children of unknown or stateless parents may apply to the President for citizenship, but citizenship will not be granted automatically.

BY DESCENT: Child, both of whose parents are citizens of Mongolia, regardless of the child's country of birth.

Child, one of whose parents is a citizen of Mongolia, is not automatically granted citizenship; the parents have the option of requesting Mongolian citizenship for the child from the President's Office.

BY NATURALIZATION: Mongolian citizenship may only be acquired by submitting a request directly to the President's Office. Final authority for granting citizenship rests with this office.


DUAL CITIZENSHIP: NOT RECOGNIZED.


LOSS OF CITIZENSHIP:

VOLUNTARY: Voluntary renunciation of Mongolian citizenship is permitted by law. Request must be sent for approval to the President's Office. Contact the Embassy for details and required paperwork.

INVOLUNTARY: There are no grounds for involuntary loss of Mongolian citizenship.
